Terms in plain language.

You sign in via email + password, GitHub, Google, Apple, or email magic link. Keep that account secure. You are responsible for what is done from your MíngWay account. You must be at least 13 years old (16 in the EEA) to create an account.

You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Delete account. Deletion is immediate, irreversible, and removes all data tied to your account — see the privacy policy for the inventory and retention rules.

A Mandarin learning app with HSK decks, spaced repetition, writing practice, an AI tutor (Anthropic Claude), and pronunciation scoring (Microsoft Azure). We try to make the service consistently available but we do not guarantee 100% uptime — you have used the internet before, you know how this works.

MíngWay Plus is an auto-renewing subscription that unlocks additional content and features. It is available monthly or annually. Two payment surfaces:

Web (Stripe)

• Plus is billed by Stripe — monthly or annually depending on the plan you pick. New subscriptions include a 7-day free trial; you can cancel during the trial without being charged.
• Cancel anytime via Settings → Billing or directly in Stripe’s customer portal. After cancellation, Plus access continues until the end of the paid period; we do not pro-rate refunds for the unused portion.
• Pricing changes are announced at least 30 days in advance. Existing subscribers keep their original pricing through the end of their current paid period.

iOS App Store (Apple)

• Payment will be charged to your Apple ID account at confirmation of purchase.
• The subscription automatically renews unless it is cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
• Your account will be charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period at the same price you currently pay, unless we have notified you of a price change.
• You can manage and cancel your subscription by going to your iOS App Store account settings after purchase.
• Cancellation of the current subscription period is not permitted during an active period; the subscription remains active until the end of the paid period and no refund is provided for any unused portion.
• Any unused portion of a free trial, where offered, is forfeited when you purchase a subscription.

When using MíngWay — including the AI tutor — you agree not to:

• Use the tutor to generate or solicit content that depicts the sexual exploitation of children, encourages violence or self-harm, harasses a real person, or provides step-by-step instructions for clearly illegal activity.
• Scrape, copy, or rebrand the HSK catalog, grammar library, or brand assets.
• Bypass rate limits, abuse the share-link feature, or attempt to access accounts that aren’t yours.
• Misrepresent AI-generated content as human-authored when sharing it outside the app.

Every assistant reply has a Report button you can use to flag content you believe violates these rules. We review reports and may suspend or terminate accounts engaged in repeated abuse.

The HSK catalog, grammar library, brand assets, and product code are MíngWay’s. Don’t copy, scrape, or rebrand them as your own. User-generated content (custom decks, imported word lists, shared decks) remains yours; by sharing publicly you grant MíngWay a non-exclusive, worldwide license to display it to other users.

The MíngWay tutor uses Anthropic’s Claude model family. Replies are generated and may be wrong. Treat them as a study aid, not authoritative linguistic claims. We do not use your tutor conversations to train any AI model.

• Sell your data.
• Train AI models on your conversations or notes.
• Run ads or surface-tune the experience around engagement metrics.

MíngWay is provided “as is.” To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential damages — lost study time, missed exams, the disappointment of a non-fluent year abroad. If a court finds we are liable for something, our total liability is capped at what you’ve paid us in the previous 12 months (zero, for free users). Nothing in these terms limits liability for gross negligence, fraud, or anything else the law forbids excluding.

You can delete your account anytime via Settings → Delete account. We can suspend or terminate accounts for breach of these terms — particularly the Acceptable Use rules. If we terminate without cause and you have prepaid for a subscription period, we will refund the unused portion.

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. Disputes are resolved by the courts of England and Wales, except where mandatory consumer-protection law in your country of residence gives you the right to bring proceedings in your local courts. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under mandatory consumer law in your jurisdiction.

We may update these terms. Material changes get a notice via email or in-app banner. Continued use after the effective date means you accept the change. The date at the top of this page is always the canonical "effective from" date.
